Brunel is currently recruiting a Mine Planning Engineer to develop and maintain short to medium-term (0-12 month) mine plans and schedules in support of safe, efficient, and optimized open pit production. The successful candidate will focus on improving planning accuracy, supporting operational performance through data-driven decision-making, and enabling continuous improvement across the planning cycle.
- Develop and maintain 0-12 month mine plans and integrated schedules aligned with operational targets, equipment availability, and execution readiness.
- Prepare weekly and monthly plans, forecasting updates, and end-of-month reconciliations; ensure plans are communicated clearly to operations and stakeholders.
- Monitor and reconcile actual production performance against plan; identify variances, root causes, and implement forecast adjustments as required.
- Optimize mine design and scheduling outputs to support grade control, reduce dilution, and improve ore delivery reliability.
- Review and improve drill and blast designs to optimize fragmentation and downstream productivity.
- Track, analyze, and report key planning and production KPIs, including (but not limited to) production rates, stripping ratios, ore delivery, and short-term compliance metrics.
- Collaborate with Geotechnical and Geology teams to incorporate technical guidance and constraints into mine designs, sequencing, and execution plans.
- Support annual budgeting and business planning by providing planning inputs, scenarios, and assumptions.
- Provide direction to contract mining partners to maximize productivity and efficiency while aligning execution with plan intent.
- Manage consultants and contractors on engineering-related projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and deliverables are met.
- Contribute to engineering studies, improvement projects, and innovation initiatives that improve planning accuracy, execution outcomes, and business value.
- Present plans, results, risks, and key trade-offs to site leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach Mine Technologists and junior personnel; support capability development and consistent planning standards.
- Provide support to surveying and sampling activities as required to enable planning accuracy and reconciliation quality.
- Promote and maintain high safety standards; actively participate in safety initiatives and ensure planning practices align with site HSE requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent).
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for registration with PEO.
- 3+ Timmins years of experience in an open pit mining environment (planning/scheduling experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of open pit operations, mine design, and short-range planning fundamentals.
