Reporting to the Senior Operations & Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading the site's maintenance organization to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.
- Lead, coach, and develop maintenance personnel
- Manage hiring, performance reviews, training, and succession planning
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Ensure employees are trained and competent in all assigned tasks
- Drive technical skill development and quality execution across the maintenance team
Maintenance & Reliability
- Manage maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution activities
- Optimize equipment utilization and reliability
- Maintain equipment to design standards and operational requirements
- Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
- Create long-term asset management and lifecycle plans
- Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and reliability improvements
- Ensure maintenance KPIs and performance targets are achieved
- Lead safety initiatives and promote a strong safety culture
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies
- Conduct maintenance audits focused on safety and quality
- Lead incident investigations and corrective action programs
- Manage SOP reviews, JHAs, and safe work practices
- Participate in hazard assessments and risk evaluations
- Partner with operations, safety, process, and quality teams to maintain safe production
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Develop annual, monthly, weekly, and daily maintenance plans
- Manage maintenance budgets and cost forecasts
- Analyze budget variances and implement corrective actions
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements
- Ensure maintenance spending remains within budget targets
- Educate teams on proper cost allocation and financial accountability
- Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support ISO compliance and management systems
- Maintain strong relationships with internal customers and stakeholders
- Ensure equipment availability supports production and quality objectives
- Drive 5S and housekeeping programs
- Support waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferred
Experience
- Maintenance leadership experience within manufacturing, chemical processing, mining, industrial, or related environments
- Experience leading and developing multi-craft maintenance teams
- Approximately 10+ years of experience in a plant processing or industrial manufacturing environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling processes
- Experience with risk management, incident investigations, and safe work systems
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and Microsoft Office applications
