Our client is seeking an experienced Turnaround Cost Engineer to support the successful planning, execution, and close-out of major turnaround activities within a complex industrial environment. This role is responsible for delivering accurate cost control, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis to ensure disciplined project execution and strong financial performance.
- Develop, maintain, and update cost estimates for turnaround scopes throughout planning and execution phases.
- Perform cost tracking, forecasting, accruals, and variance analysis throughout turnaround execution.
- Manage commitments, purchase orders, work orders, and invoice validation in alignment with established financial processes.
- Prepare routine cost reports, dashboards, and performance updates highlighting trends, risks, and forecast changes.
- Support contingency planning, cost risk analysis, and forecast management activities.
- Interface with contractors and vendors to review cost performance, progress updates, and forecast accuracy.
- Support turnaround close-out activities, including final cost reconciliation, documentation, and lessons learned.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of cost control processes, systems, and reporting standards.
- Identify and escalate cost risks, trends, and control gaps proactively.
- Partner with turnaround, maintenance, planning, and scheduling teams to ensure alignment between scope, schedule, and cost.
- Support procurement and contracting activities, including bid evaluations, invoice reviews, and commercial compliance.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and technical support to junior cost control professionals where required.
- Deliver accurate cost forecasts, accruals, cash flow projections, and performance reporting throughout all project phases.
- Support budget planning and financial assurance activities while maintaining compliance with company standards and audit requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, maintenance, shutdown, turnaround, or industrial project environments.
- Experience supporting refinery, petrochemical, manufacturing, energy, mining, or other large industrial operations is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of cost estimating, forecasting, accruals, variance analysis, earned value management, and change management practices.
- Proficiency with SAP and advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Primavera P6, Power BI, Prometheus, or other cost and reporting tools is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced turnaround environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, financial discipline, and operational excellence.
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior cost control professionals is considered an asset.
- Willingness to support extended or flexible work hours during turnaround execution periods.
