Brunel has an exciting long-term contract opportunity for a Project Accountant supporting our client who is a leading global mining and metals company.
This contract position will work from home with occasional site visits to North America.
Capital Project Accounting
- Monitor and analyze project costs, commitments, accruals, and forecasts.
- Review project expenditures for proper accounting treatment, including capital versus operating expense classification.
- Assist with asset capitalization models, asset group development, and project closeout activities as required.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles.
- Prepare monthly project financial reports, variance analyses, and management reporting packages.
- Support project budget-to-actual reviews and provide explanations for significant variances.
- Coordinate with Project Controls and Operations teams to validate project costs and forecasts.
Contractor Payment Administration
- Coordinate contractor payment application (PayApp) processing and approval workflows.
- Review contractor invoices and payment applications for compliance with contract terms.
- Collaborate with Contracts, Procurement, and Project Controls personnel to resolve discrepancies.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
- Experience with project accounting, capital projects, construction accounting, or cost accounting.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large capital construction or mining projects.
- Knowledge of fixed asset accounting and capitalization requirements.
- Experience with Aconex, SharePoint, Power BI, or related project management/reporting tools.
- CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification preferred.
