We are seeking an Environmental Advisor to join a tier one mining business and support approvals for a major greenfield iron ore project. Reporting to the Principal, Environment, the role will assist with key approval documentation, focusing on a Section 38 referral under the EP Act 1986 and a referral under the EPBC Act 1999.
This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional with strong technical writing and document coordination skills to gain exposure to a significant project and work closely with experienced approvals specialists, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of Section 38 and EPBC Act referral documentation
- Draft proposal descriptions, impact assessments, mitigation measures and environmental commitments
- Coordinate technical inputs from environmental specialists, consultants and project teams
- Review technical studies and identify information gaps, inconsistencies and outstanding evidence requirements
- Consolidate multidisciplinary information into clear, accurate and defensible approval documents
- Prepare stakeholder engagement summaries and maintain consultation records
- Assist with responses to regulator comments and requests for further information
- Coordinate document reviews, revisions and quality assurance processes
- Track approval actions, deliverables and submission deadlines
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, consultants and regulators as required
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- Two to five years' experience in environmental approvals, impact assessment, environmental management or a related area
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a similar
- Demonstrated experience preparing high-quality technical, regulatory or environmental documentation
- An understanding of WA and Commonwealth environmental assessment processes
- Knowledge of Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and the EPBC Act
- Strong written communication, editing and document coordination skills
- The ability to interpret and consolidate information from multiple technical disciplines
- Strong attention to detail and quality assurance capability
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work to project deadlines
- Effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Desirable Experience
- Mining, resources, infrastructure or greenfield project experience
- Previous involvement in Section 38 or EPBC Act referrals
- Experience coordinating consultants and environmental studies
- Knowledge of Pilbara environmental values and approval requirements
- GIS capability or experience interpreting spatial environmental information
